Organic chicken scratch is a useful by-product from the cleaning, hulling and sorting process of our food grade whole grains, legumes and seeds.. Every batch is unique as it is unformulated.
Our popular product called chicken scratch is a useful by-product from the cleaning, hulling and sorting process of our food grade whole grains, legumes and seeds. This unformulated, supplementary feed option is composed of small grains, cracks and voluntary grains. Chicken scratch is uncleaned and might include wheat, flax, lentils, peas or corn.
As our chicken scratch is unformulated and isn’t tested for protein at the ‘mixed’ stage we can only approximate the protein content at 12 – 14%. Chicken scratch consists of only organic products. As the contents of the chicken scratch are removed in the earlier stage of the cleaning process there can be dust. Some batches will be dustier than others depending on the crop.
Many customers tell us they soak their chicken scratch in water, especially during the colder months. As with food grade whole grains, legumes and seeds, the chicken scratch mixture will absorb the water, soften, expand and this is the beginning of fermentation.
